Attention dog owners! FDA recalls this pet food after 28 dogs die, and 8 got very ill!

A certain pet food had been recalled by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) after 28 dogs that ate it die and eight more fall severely sick! According to the FDA certain lots of Sportmix pet food products were recalled!

This pet food was recalled after several product samples were tested and it was found that they contain possibly fatal levels of aflatoxin, which is a toxin produced by the mold Aspergillus flavus, and at high levels, it can cause illnesses and deaths in pets.

Symptoms of aflatoxin poisoning are sluggishness, loss of appetite, vomiting, jaundice, and/or diarrhea. In severe cases pets may suffer liver damage, however don’t show any symptoms.

If you are giving your pets the products listed below you should immediately stop and consult your veterinarian as soon as possible:

Lot code information may be found on the back of bag and will appear in a three-line code, with the top line in format “EXP 03/03/22/05/L#/B###/HH:MM”. According to the FDA humans pet owners who handle these products are at no risk.
