However, even though all of these breeds make good family dogs, there’s one that makes the perfect family dog – the Cavapoo! We’ll take a look at all the characteristics of Cavapoos. And we’ll see how the Cavapoo full grown dog is like.
The Cavapoo is a mixed breed dog. It is a cross between the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and Poodle dog breeds. This mix is very outgoing, playful, and curious! They are loving and gentle, as well. You could say that these pups inherited some of the best traits from both parents. Who would not want such a dog for their children?!
But before bringing a dog home, you can’t help but wonder: How big do Cavapoos get? Is there any reason why I shouldn’t get a Cavapoo? Well, the size of a Cavapoo will be determined by the parent Poodles size. As you probably already know, there are three Poodle sizes: Standard, miniature, and toy. The standard Poodle mixed with Cavalier Spaniels will produce a Standard Cavapoo. There can be a huge difference in the size of Cavapoos based on the different sizes of Poodles.
Cavapoo – The best dog for families
The Cavapoo actually goes by several different names, for example, Cavadoodle and Cavoodle. All of them are pretty adorable, aren’t they?
Generally speaking, this will be a pretty small dog. They will have a cuddly size and most of them will be more than fine with living in an apartment. If you give them enough exercise and mental stimulation, of course. But given that they are a mix their size can vary between small to medium. And like we already explained in the introduction, their full size actually depends on the size of the Poodle parent.
Just like we explained for the Poodle sizes, the Cavapoo too comes as a Standard Cavapoo, Miniature Cavapoo, and Toy Cavapoo. We will talk more about their measurements later on in the article, so keep on reading to get an answer to the important question how big different Cavapoos exactly get.
In addition to their different sizes, Cavapoos can come in a variety of different colors too. These include cream, fawn, chocolate, gold, chestnut, and even white! Generally, Cavapoos can be solid colors, however, most often they are chestnut and white, or sometimes even tri-colored.

The Cavapoo has a lifespan of 10 to 15 years. Which is a lot in the canine world. When it comes to the Cavapoo full grown size, these dogs are actually small. How big do Cavapoos get is determined by their type. Are they a mini Cavapoo size, or a toy size? Either way, small variations are possible, just like they are with any other type of crossbreed or Doodle breed.
Size
Cavapoos can grow between 10 and 15 inches tall and can weigh between nine and 25 pounds. Because this is a designer dog, there is no set standard how the Cavapoo full grown will look like. One reason for this is that the Cavapoo can be bred from a Toy Poodle or a Miniature Poodle. They are both different in size, so it’s an important factor how big they will be as a Cavapoo adult.
Obviously, a full-grown Cavapoo will be bigger if they were bred from a Miniature poodle. Because they are around 15 inches tall. Your fully grown Cavapoo will be smaller if they were bred from a Toy poodle, which is around 10 inches tall. Of course, also remember that a female Cavapoo full grown or Cavapoo adult dog is smaller than a male.

Toy Cavapoo
The Toy Poodle stands around 10 inches tall and weighs 10 to 12 pounds, while the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel stands approximately 12 to 13 inches tall and weighs 13 to 18 pounds. The Toy Cavapoo is approximately 12 inches tall at the shoulder and weighs 7 to 13 pounds
Because they do not enjoy wandering or exercising, a small-sized Toy Cavapoo can thrive in smaller spaces. As a result, if you live in an apartment or a condo, a Toy Cavapoo may be the ideal pet for you.
Miniature Cavapoo
The Mini Cavapoo is a bit larger than the Toy Cavapoo. And how large do Mini Cavapoos grow to be? The Mini Cavapoo can stand 12 to 16 inches tall at the shoulder and weigh 15 to 30 pounds. Due to genetics, gender, height, and weight of the parent’s breed, among other considerations, Mini Cavapoos can be smaller or larger than these sizes.
The vast majority of people adore Mini Cavapoos because they are neither too small nor too large. They can also live with allergy-prone families because their coat is hypoallergenic and does not shed. You can live comfortably with a Mini Cavapoo in practically any environment, whether you live in an apartment, a condo, or a cottage.
Standard Cavapoo
The Standard Cavapoo is the largest of the Cavapoo breeds, weighing 40 to 70 pounds and standing over 15 inches tall. When crossed with Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, however, a Standard Cavapoo can weigh anywhere from 20 to 30 pounds and stand around 18 inches tall.
Cavapoos don’t thrive in all circumstances since they demand a large amount of space to wander and exercise. As a result, if you get a Standard Cavapoo, make sure you have enough room.
At what age will Cavapoos stop growing?
A Cavapoo puppy will stop growing and reach the bulk of their weight when they are aproximatley 1 to 2 years old. This breed’s growth and when they reach their full maturity varies from dog to dog, however, it is influenced by breed, size, gender, and other important aspects of their life like the food you feed them, how much exercise they get, and more.
Cavapoos are little breed dogs, therefore by the time they reach their first birthday, they are usually completely grown. However, your Cavapoo may grow the most of its weight between the ages of 4-6 months. This is before any significant size gain begins to slow. The rate at which your dog grows also depends on the puppy food you feed him and the nutritional value in it.
You may also notice that your female Cavapoo is a little shorter than her brothers in height. This is due to the fact that female dogs, like many other animals, are more compact than their male counterparts. Female dogs of this crossbreed will stay a bit smaller than the male ones. A Cavapoo will have gained approximately 75% of its whole weight and grown to roughly 90% of its total height by the time it reaches 7 months of age.
The particular time in which your dog reaches it’s full size will also depend on the type of Cavapoo he is. Standard Cavapoos are the largest out of the three and they will grow at a much higher rate than the mini Cavapoo size.
Personality
As mentioned before, these dogs are very outgoing, playful, loving, and affectionate! But besides this, they are also very intelligent and athletic too! They take a lot after their Poodle parent in terms of their intelligence, however, you have to take into consideration that they could get pretty stubborn too!
They are super easy to train and teach because they want to please their owners and family. However, one problem that might arise is because of the fact that the Cavapoo adult dog is very attached to their family. So, if they are not trained well, they might turn to destructive behavior when left alone. They could start barking, chewing on your furniture, destroying your shoes, or peeing on the carpet.
But if you train your dog well enough, he has the potential to become the ideal family dog. These pups are easy-going, affectionate, stay by their owners no matter what, but they are still up for a good time. They are more athletic than you might think, especially the standard Cavapoo, and they will gladly join you on your hikes and walks.
Are Cavapoos good family dogs?
Even though the Cavapoo makes an amazing family dog and is great around children, parents need to pay attention too and take care of their dog. Given their small size sometimes it can happen that children can hurt the Cavapoo, even a Cavapoo adult dog.
Just like you train your dog to never attack your child, you need to teach children an important lesson too. Parents should teach kids from a young age how to safely approach and play with dogs. Only this way you’ll ensure that no one will get hurt. So make sure you never leave small kids and dogs without any type of supervision.
But besides that, Cavapoos absolutely love all of their family members! These are incredibly affectionate dogs that enjoy spending time with you. They will gladly curly up next to you while you watch your favorite shows on Netflix.
When it comes to other pets, properly socialized Cavapoos will gladly be in the company of other dogs. They might have a harder time around cats, but if you introduce them early on, this should be fine as well. Poodles are intelligent dogs, so their offspring will be too.
Care and exercise
Even though the Cavapoo is a small dog, it doesn’t mean that they don’t require a lot of care. Just like with any other breed or mix you need to keep up with veterinarian visits and checkups.
Besides this daily brushing is a must as well. You will also have to check your dog’s ears for debris and pests daily and clean them.
Trimming your dog’s nails once or twice per month should also not be forgotten. Neither should you neglect oral hygiene. Brush your dog’s teeth daily. Smaller breeds are actually more prone to dental issues.
Exercise needs to be a part of your dog’s daily routine. The Cavapoo is because of its size actually prone to gaining weight. That’s why it’s important to integrate at least half an hour of exercise daily.
To maintain your dog’s health and weight take one good half-hour- to hour-long walk per day with them. Also, include a few active play sessions.
Food and energy
When they are puppies the Cavapoo is hyper. They have a lot of energy. That’s when their energy is at its peak. A Cavapoo full grown dog also has a lot of energy, but not as much as puppies fo. But, they still need exercise.
When it comes to food Cavapoo puppies need small amounts of fuud, but you will have to feed them more often. For example, four times a day. Don’t forget that the type of puppy food you feed your Cavapoo puppy will also have an effect on how fast he is growing and when he will reach his full size. Always make sure that their food is rich in nutrients, and does not include a lot of filler foods such as cereals or other types of carbohydrates. Good quality dog food is rich in protein and mostly contains different types of lean meat such as turkey, chicken or beef.
Even when your dog reaches full maturity, you still have to focus on feeding him healthy and balanced food. It’s your choice if you will feed him dry kibble, wet food, or a combination of both of them. Just make sure that your dog gets all of the nutrients that he needs. Some people even choose to feed their canine a raw food diet, however, you should definitely talk to your vet first if you decide to do that.
We can’t tell you how much food you should give your dog. It all depends on the kind of food you’re giving them. But, you can start with the number of calories your dog needs per day, and work out how much you need to feed them. Your vet can give you the number of calories your dog needs per day. The number will depend on the size of your dog, gender, age, and activity levels.
Grooming the Cavapoo
A full grown Cavapoo that has an adult coat needs regular grooming. They don’t shed, but their coat is long and wavy. So, brushing it is a must. Brushing your Cavapoo’s coat once or twice a week will be enough. Many people want to know if Cavapoos are hypoallergenic. Well, that is pretty hard to tell. There is no dog breed that is completely hypoallergenic, but the Poodle and his mixes come close to it. It will depend on the type of coat your dog’s inherit, but in most cases, it should be the short, curly coat of his Poodle parent.
Of course, don’t forget about cleaning their ears. And you also have to brush their teeth! These two aspects are often overlooked when grooming a dog, but that shouldn’t be the case. Brushing your dog’s teeth at least a couple of times a week will help prevent any type of gum disease. Healthy teeth will make the life of your dog so much easier, especially when he reaches his senior age.

In conclusion, the Cavapoo is really the perfect family dog! Without any exaggeration! They are not as high maintenance as other dogs. They don’t require a lot of care but give you so much love and affection.
This mix will make great friends for your child and teach them empathy and responsibility. Of course, training your dog is inevitable. Working on socializing your Cavapoo from a young age is key.
