Is your beloved dog an aggressive chewer and no toy lasts longer than a week? However, if you don’t constantly buy new chewing toys he may start chewing on your furniture. That’s when “indestructible dog toys” come in handy. However, these toys can get pretty pricey, especially if you have more dogs that don’t want to share toys or your pup tends to kick them under the furniture and lose. But we have the perfect solution for you — DIY! Yes, you can make these toys yourself. And trust us, you don’t have to be crafty at all.
Many dog owners stay away from making the toys for their dogs themselves because they think that it could be complicated or time consuming. However, dog toys are made in such a simple way from materials that we often have at home. Especially when it comes to indestructible dog toys, because often they are made from fabric such as denim.
Everyone has a pair of old jeans that they don’t fit in anymore or just don’t wear. So why don’t you give these jeans a second chance and let them have the opportunity to become your dog’s favorite toy.

Denim DIY indestructible dog toys
Toys made from denim are very heavy-duty. And while no dog toy can be completely indestructible, these do a pretty good job at it. Denim is much more resistant to chewing than cotton, for example. So if you want to give your dogs something to chew on for a while, get your old pair of jeans out of the closet and give them a new (not so glamorous) life.
Things that you will need:
- old denim clothes
- strong scissors
- elastic or hair tie
- needle-nose pliers
We will show you four different types of indestructible denim dog toys that you can make without any sewing or advanced craft skills.
Waistband dog toy
This is definitely the easiest of them all. Literally all you have to do is just cut of the waistband of your old jeans. Yup, and that’s it. While it is incredibly simple the waistband is still very robust and will survive even if your dog is an aggressive chewer.
If this toy didn’t impress neither you or your dog, don’t worry. We have some more interesting ones waiting for you.
Donut dog toy
A simple toy perfect for either chewing or playing fetch. Start by cutting off a denim stripe from your old denim. Next also cut off either the jean leg from your jeans or jean sleeve from your old denim jacket.
Then simply roll the jeans leg into a donut shape and wrap the denim strip around the donut to secure it. Tie the ends together with an overhand knot.
Crown knot dog toy
Now the this and the next one can be a bit tricky to make for some people. However, once you get the hang of it, it will be no problem at all.
For this toy you will need four denim strips and one hair tie to secure them.
The tie a series of crown knots. However, if you
tied your last crown knot in elementary school, you might need to fresh up your memory. For a simple video tutorial, click here.
To hide the tails, simply push them at the end through the toy and trim the remaining ends off.
Y-shaped dog toy
While this DIY indestructible denim dog
toy does look a bit complicated, don’t let yourself get scared off. Once you start knotting, it will be much easier than you think.
All you will need are six denim strips and one hair tie to secure them while knotting.
Begin with four strips and tie a series of crown or square knots. When you reach the middle of the strips, add two more denim strips.
Then just start knotting in two directions, creating two new strips. Finish the toy the same way you finished the crown one.
If you want to save some money but still give your dogs great toys to play with and chew on, these four options are perfect for you. While the first two
Are incredibly simple and fast to make, some people may be scared off by the knotting part of the last two.
However, once you get the hang of it, they will be easy and fast to make as well. And besides that, that’s also a fun activity to keep you busy while watching TV or listening to a podcast.
