Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever or Toller is the smallest of all the AKC recognized retrievers. Tollers are gundogs with coat colors and tails very similar to that of a fox. Waterfowl is generally curious and fascinated by the movement and color of the fox. Therefore, hunters and breeders used this fact to create a dog that would closely resemble a fox and attract waterfowl into the gunshot range.
