The reason why dogs are afraid of thunder and how to calm them down!

Normally calm pups can go crazy and get very, very stressed out during a thunderstorm. Of course, as a dog lover, it’s probably very difficult to watch your beloved pet be so afraid and trembling, even worse some dogs even get very destructive during thunderstorms.

But why do they do that and what can you as a dog parent actually do in those situations?!

According to Trista Miller, a CPDT certified trainer, and an AKC CGC and Trick Dog Evaluator, trainers and experts do not know the exact and every reason why dogs hate thunderstorms, however, she believes it has a lot to do with the loud sounds. This theory makes sense because we do know that dogs are much more sensitive to sounds, their hearing is so much more powerful than ours, so they can often detect thunder way before we can.

Besides this, Miller stated that dogs are also sensitive to changes in air pressure and potentially static electricity. So, there could potentially also be some unheard, unseen things that dogs can catch that we do not.
