Why Does My Dog Always Chew On My Shoes?

Why Does My Dog Always Chew On My Shoes?

Even though many think that dogs are so in love with shoes because of their funky smell, that still wouldn’t explain why they have a tendency to eat our new and unworn shoes too. These basically have no smell to them at all.

The easiest explanation as to why dogs use our shoes as their personal toys is because they are so accessible to them. We leave them on the floor without even thinking too much about it. When it comes to new shoes, they are just so fresh and fun for your pup, and something new to play with. They don’t want to destroy them, they just want to find out what they are.

But when it comes to our everyday shoes, the smell could possibly be one of the reasons our dogs are so attracted to them. They can smell everywhere that we’ve been and it’s exciting. There is no way that our dogs would not be interested in the different smells that inadvertently come home with us.

Dogs also love different textures. That why they love your expensive leather shoes so much.

Puppies will often chew on shoes because they’re teething. And when it comes to adult dogs, they might be experiencing some stress or anxiety. Always be on the lookout for possible signs of stress in your dog such as decreased appetite, increased sleep, isolation, shaking or excessive barking.

If you think that your dog might be experiencing stress then it’s best to talk to your vet about it.
