So, if you want to surprise your dog with some homemade treats that he’ll love, take a look at our incredibly easy and quick recipes for homemade dog treats with peanut butter!
Peanut butter and carrot dog treats
The first dog treat jar recipe is for peanut butter and carrot cookies. Yum!
For the ingredients you’ll need the following:
- 1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
- 1 cup rolled oats
- 1/2 cup wheat germ
- 1/4 cup creamy peanut butter
- 1/2 cup grated carrot
- 3/4 cup bone broth
This might not sound appetizing for you, but trust us, your dog will love you (even more!) for making him or her these delicious treats.
Now for the instructions. Before you start preparing anything turn on your oven and preheat it to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Then line a baking tray with parchment paper or simply put a silicone baking mat into it. After you’ve done that, we’ll start preparing our batter.
Firstly, coarsely grate your carrot and let it sit for a bit until you prepare the “cookie dough”. Secondly, put the flour, oats, and wheat germ into a large bowl and stir the whole thing well with a wooden spoon.
Then, add your grated carrot and stir into the flour mixture. Then, add the peanut butter and bone broth and stir to combine all the ingredients well. Once you can’t stir anymore just use your hands to form the dough.
When you get a nice uniform dough put it onto a floured work surface and use a rolling pin to roll the dough out to 1/4″ thickness. Now comes the fun part! Cut out the cookies using a cookie cutter or sharp knife and put them into your baking tray.
Put the cookies into your hot oven and bake them for 25 minutes. Once they are done remove them from the oven and allow them to cool completely.
Lastly, let your dog enjoy homemade cookies!
Pumpkin puree and peanut butter dog cookies
Our second dog treat jar recipe is for pumpkin puree and peanut butter dog cookies. Not going to lie, but that sounds so good even we would eat that! Just kidding, we won’t. But we’re sure your dog will love it!
For this recipe you don’t need many ingredients:
- 2/3 cup pumpkin puree
- 1/4 cup peanut butter
- 2 large eggs
- 2 1/2 – 3 cups whole wheat flour
Now, onto the instructions on how to make these great dog treats!
Before you make your mixture, preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Then, line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
Get a big bowl and your electric mixer with the paddle attachment. Put the pumpkin puree, peanut butter, and eggs in the bowl and beat it on medium-high until well combined, or about 1-2 minutes.
After that, gradually add 2 1/2 cups flour at low speed, beating just until incorporated. Slowly add an additional 1/4 cup flour until the dough is no longer sticky.
Then, working on a lightly floured surface, knead the dough 3-4 times until it comes together. Now comes the fun part (again) using a rolling pin, roll the dough to 1/4-inch thickness and using a cookie cutter cut out the desired shapes and place them onto the prepared baking sheet.
Put the baking sheet into the oven and bake until the edges are golden brown, which is about 20-25 minutes.
Once it’s done take it out of the oven and let cool completely.
