They sure do smell amazing, and none of us could resist taking a bite. As you eat them, I bet your dog will spawn next to you begging for just one. To find out if blueberry muffins are really good for dogs, then keep reading!

Can Dogs Eat Blueberry Muffins

When it comes to fruit dogs can eat, blueberries are on the safe list. They are low in calories and sugar which make them healthy, so they are a safe snack for your pup. Plus, if you make homemade dog treats, using blueberries is actually good for them. They are high in disease-fighting antioxidants.

So, what about muffins? Muffins are safe in normal quantities. Sharing one of your blueberry muffins with your pup probably won’t hurt them, but I advise against giving them lots of muffins every single day – they will come for more!

Let’s look at the pros and the cons of blueberry muffins for dogs.

Are Blueberry Muffins Bad For Dogs

No, they aren’t bad for dogs, unless you allow them to eat too many muffins. Blueberry muffins that we humans usually eat are not very healthy for your pet. Just avoid giving them lots of it.

The problem is that they are really high in sugar and carbs. Dogs should not eat a high-calorie or high-carb diet (neither humans shouldn’t). If they do, they could gain an unhealthy amount of weight and cause health problems. Weight gain from muffins (and in general) puts them at a higher risk for other diseases such as diabetes and heart disease.

It’s also important to note that some dogs’ stomachs don’t react well to blueberry muffins. It could give them an upset stomach or diarrhea. If you don’t know how your dog is going to react to the muffin, only give them a small amount at a time and see if they can tolerate it before giving them more so you can avoid any unpleasant circumstances.

More than likely, it is safe to share a bite of your muffin with your pet, but don’t let it replace a healthy diet, and don’t give it in many quantities.

Are Blueberry Muffins Good For Dogs

Even though blueberry muffins that are made for humans have way too much sugar and carbs to be good for your pet, you can make a dog-friendly, healthy recipe that is good for them.

Blueberries have a high volume of vitamin C (for their immune system) and are rich in antioxidants. As long as you give them a low-sugar muffin, it is a healthy treat to give on rare occasions.

In fact, this blueberry dog muffins recipe is made with rolled oats, wheat flour, fresh blueberries, and applesauce (no sugar added). It does have carbs and fiber, but the low amount of added sugars makes it a healthier way to share blueberries with your dog and make them happier while not worrying about their health or obesity.

My Dog Ate A Blueberry Muffin – What Do I Do?

This depends on how many blueberry muffins they ate, as discussed above. If they are in small quantities it’s ok for your pup, but as said previously avoid giving too many. Also, it depends on if they are allergic/gluten-intolerant, and their size. Watch out for signs of gastrointestinal distress. If you notice them vomiting, lethargy, or have diarrhea, contact your veterinarian and ask how you can help them feel more comfortable.
