Cinnamon itself is not toxic for dogs. But you shouldn’t be sprinkling it on your dog’s food either. Cinnamon toast crunch may be appealing to share with your four-legged friend. But, do not do it. Artificial sweeteners in them are also a big problem. That is why too much candy of any kind is not healthy of course.

Health benefits of cinnamon

Despite all of the above mentioned risks, we can’t deny the health benefits of cinnamon either. It’s a fact that cinnamon is actually a very healthy spice.

Firstly, cinnamon is a great anti-inflammatory. This means that it is great for older dogs and especially those with arthritic conditions, dermatitis, as well as pancreatitis. But, large quantity of cinnamon will not make any good for your pooch. It will not make cinnamon rolls safe in any kind.

Secondly, ceylon cinnamon is also packed with antioxidants meaning it’s great for cognitive function and brain health of your beloved dog.

Lastly, cinnamon can regulate blood sugar, lower insulin resistance, and even absorbs sugar in your dog’s diet!

However, when it comes to cinnamon rolls, cinnamon is not the issue. There is another ingredient you have to worry about!

One of the main ingredients of cinnamon rolls is – SUGAR! And we’ve already talked about how bad sugar is for dogs, but let’s go over it one more time.
Also, sometimes cinnamon rolls can contain macadamia nuts whichare not really good for a dog, in small or large amounts.

Why sugar is bad

A little bit of sugar won’t kill our dog or do much harm. However, giving your dog sweet treats over an extended period of time will cause serious problems. Homemade cinnamon rolls are not healthy, not even for you.

Firstly, if your dog eats even small amounts of sugar over a longer period of time this can and definitely will lead to serious health issues and problems. Diabetes, obesity, and tooth decay are just a few of them.

Secondly, your dog’s digestion will suffer too. This is because your dog’s system is built differently than yours. Sugar will upset the balance of bacteria needed to digest food, which can lead to diarrhea and vomiting.
