The Los Angeles Fire Department swiftly responded to the scene at Pacoima Wash around 2:45 p.m. local time after receiving reports from concerned bystanders.
Witnesses recounted how the man courageously dived into the flowing water in pursuit of his loyal canine, prompting immediate action.
Thankfully, the dog managed to navigate the rapids and swim safely to the edge, escaping any harm, confirmed the LAFD.
With unwavering determination, LAFD’s Air Ops unit sprang into action, swiftly lowering a rescuer into the water to retrieve the stranded individual.
Video footage shared on social media by the LAFD captured the awe-inspiring moment when the rescuer made contact with the man, and together they were hoisted to safety.
Remarkably, the rescued man remained conscious throughout the ordeal, as reported by the LAFD. He was then carefully airlifted to a local hospital for further medical attention.
Meanwhile, the rescued man’s loyal companion was taken to a nearby shelter, where the pup received temporary care for minor injuries.
