On a chilly Sunday morning, Fort Wayne Police Department dispatchers received a concerned call from a vigilant resident.
The report described an unsettling sight—a mysterious dark shape in the icy waters of a local park’s pond- accompanied by distressed barking.
Responding swiftly to the cry for help, Officer Trent Hullinger rushed to the scene, expecting the unexpected. What he encountered, however, melted hearts and highlighted the unwavering bond between two loyal companions.
“Officer Hullinger located two black labs that had fallen through the ice in the northeast part of the reservoir”
the police department shared.
“Both dogs appeared to be unable to get themselves out of the water as their heads and front paws were clinging to the concrete edging surrounding the water.”
Refusing to abandon each other in their time of need, the exhausted dogs found solace in their companionship. Officer Hullinger’s body camera captured the touching rescue as the duo was lifted from the icy waters to safety.
While the circumstances leading to their perilous situation remain unknown, the timely intervention ensured the dogs were saved before their health could deteriorate.
Fort Wayne Animal Care & Control expressed gratitude for the officer’s quick actions, emphasizing the importance of the rescue.
Transported to the city’s animal shelter with no owner in sight, the resilient dogs are currently on the path to recovery.
A spokesperson reported,
“They are doing well and thankfully in great health.”
The loyal pair now awaits an owner to step forward. Without a claim, they will soon be available for adoption, promising a heartwarming tale of survival and companionship.
