Even though there are many breeds that have a spotted coat, we’re going to only talk about three specific breeds. Our favorite spotted breeds.
Dalmatians
The first breed on our list is of course Dalmatians! If we could use only three words to describe this medium-sized dog breed those words would be protective, athletic, and very friendly! What makes Dalmatians so special is their unique look – a beautiful white coat with black spots.
FUN FACT: The Dalmatian, which is in fact a hunting dog, originates from a region in Croatia. This region is called Dalmatia hence the name — Dalmatian.
But, let’s talk a bit more about the Dalmatian’s personality. These dogs actually have a sparkling personalities and are very intelligent. Besides this Dalmatians are super loyal, they are playful, active, full of energy and excitement.
Because of all of this Dalmatians also need to be trained properly or else their energy can get a bit out of control. They absolutely hate sitting quietly and being inside all day, in fact, they thrive on being outside snd being active! Also, if you’re thinking about getting a Dalmatian, know that they need at least two hours of exercise daily!
Australian Shepherd
The Australian Shepherd is another great breed with a spotted coat. Despite their name, Australian Shepherds didn’t actually originate in Australia, but in the western United States around the time of the Gold Rush in the 1840s!
FUN FACT: The Australian Shepherd is one of the most popular dogs in the world, at least according to the AKC ranking.
Aussies, how they are often referred to, are very intelligent dogs! They are full of energy and are the happiest when they have something to do, for example, herding livestock. In fact, they love helping their humans, no matter what the task is. They simply thrive on having a job, a task, a purpose!
The Australian Shepherd seems a bit cold toward strangers, but they are very affectionate and loving with their owners.

However, it’s also important to know that this breed tends to be a little pushy and commanding. So, their owners really need to be firm and confident leaders.
Beagle
Beagles don’t have as many spots as Dalmatians have, for example, but they are dogs with spots for sure!
It’s no secret that Beagles are actually pretty small dogs. However, in that small package, you get a combination of great personality, looks, and an unbelievable scenting ability! All of these characteristics make them absolutely hard to resist!
When it comes to their personality, Beagles are happy, funny, sweet, gentle dogs. They are very loyal and love spending time with their owners.

However, many Beagle owners will also tell you that these dogs a quite naughty! So you might have a tough time training them.
