Puppucino FAQ

We actually have another article all about the Puppuccino, where we go more into detail about this sweet dog treat. However, here we will answer the most commonly asked questions that dog owners may have before deciding to get this item for their dogs on their next Starbucks visit.

What are Puppuccinos?

Puppuccino is a Starbucks secret menu item that you can order for your large or pupsize dog with your regular order. In recent times, Starbucks has become a part of the daily routine for most of us. Nothing makes me feel quite as happy as having a pumpkin pie spiced latte in my hand while going for a long walk with my dog. So why shouldn’t our pups have a few delicious little licks of a canine Starbucks special as well?

What is Starbucks Puppuccino made of?

The original Starbucks pup cup basically just a small espresso cup filled with whipped cream. Dog parents can ask for this sweet treat for their fluffy friends when they do their regular Starbucks order. Your dog and you can both enjoy your Starbucks drinks together and live your best lives. It’s basically just a cute way to treat your pup when she or he was a good girl or boy. But that’s what the Puppaccino should be, just a little treat to give your dog from time to time.

Are Puppuccinos safe for dogs?

Yes, they are. Well, unless your furry friend has a high sensitivity to lactose. But other than that, a small Starbucks cup of whipped cream should be fine for most dogs. But only in moderation. Don’t forget that this is only supposed to be a treat. It’s pretty rich in calories and fat, and can therefore lead to weight gain. We have to be responsible and make sure that our dogs are at a healthy weight so that they are as healthy as possible. So if you enjoy having daily Starbucks drinks, don’t get your dog a Puppuccino every time. It would just be way too much sugar, calories, and fat. Sure, your dog would enjoy it, but it wouldn’t be good in the long run.

Is a Starbucks Puppuccino healthy?

Let’s get real for a second. Is any Starbucks drink healthy? No, it isn’t. So you shouldn’t expect the dog version to be healthy either. As we have already, this is basically just whipped cream. It has no nutritional value, and it won’t add anything beneficial to your dog’s diet. However, this is supposed to be a treat and not a meal. That means that it doesn’t have to add anything beneficial to your dog’s diet either. It’s just a special treat you give him from time to time when doing a Starbucks run.

Can Puppuccinos be bad for dogs?

Yes, but this will be different for each individual dog. If you have a lactose intolerant dog, or your pup has a sensitive stomach, Puppuccinos could be bad for him. A lot of dogs are sensitive to dairy products, and Puppuccinos are a milk product as well. So if you know that your dog doesn’t do too well with lactose products, then you definitely shouldn’t be giving him a Puppuccino. Even a little whipped cream could cause medical problems if your dog doesn’t tolerate much dairy.

How much does a Puppuccino cost?

Nothing! A Puppuccino should be completely free with your Starbucks coffee order. But it’s not great form to just ask for a Puppuccino without making any actual order. In addition to that, you should also tip your waiter for being kind enough to prepare this treat for your adorable dog. When it comes to other coffee shops, the pup cup should still be free. It is just a small cup of whipped cream after all. But always make sure that you have an actual order, and you aren’t just asking for a free treat. It could come off as rude.

How many Puppuccinos can you get?

This is a bit hard to answer, and it will definitely be different from location to location, but you should be able to get a cup for each of the dogs that you take with you. So if you show up with two dogs, you should also be able to get two Puppuccinos. Some people may try to take advantage of this, and ask for additional pup cups, but we definitely don’t support such behavior. Remember to always be fair, and just get Puppuccinos for your actual dogs.

Can cats have a pup cup?

Starbucks workers have been giving out Puppuccinos to cats as well if their owners bring them to their Starbucks runs. Your cat can also enjoy this sugary treat from time to time, however, don’t forget that your cat shouldn’t eat such calorie-rich foods too often as well. Cats are equally as prone to developing obesity as dogs are, and because they are also less active than canines, it will be harder for them to burn off those calories. In addition to that, cats can also be sensitive to dairy products. So make sure your cat can handle some lactose before giving her this treat.

Homemade Puppuccino

If you don’t live anywhere near a Starbucks, and your favorite restaurant doesn’t serve this treat, we still have some good news for you. You can actually make your own pup cup. And you can even make it a healthier and better alternative, by making sure it doesn’t have any added sugar. You can go for dairy-free whipped cream, and add some extra things such as dog food treats on top to decorate the drink to look more like an actual Starbucks drink. It’s also a good idea for a quick gift idea the next time other dog parents come to your house with their fluffy friends. Imagine the cute videos and photos you could take!
