Bernese Mountain Dog Husky Mix – The Basics

Bernese Mountain Dog Husky Mix, or The Bernsky, is a fairly young crossbreed. Historically speaking, BMD and Huskies have never been geographically close, which explains why a BMD Husky mix only exists as a crossbreed.

When it comes to their appearance, this crossbreed can take after both of the parent breeds. Both BMD and Huskies are larger dog breeds, so their crossbreed will also be larger in size.

Size
Up to 25 inches (males)
Up to 23 inches (female)
Weight
About 50 pounds
Lifespan
10 to 20 years

Bernese Mountain Dog Husky mix can grow up to 25 inches (males) and 23 (female). Their average weight is about 50 pounds. However, as this is a crossbreed, the sizes can vary from litter to litter.

Looking at their faces Bernese Mountain Dog Husky mix dogs tend to have the facial features of Huskies, more so than the ones of BMD. Their face is often long, pointy and narrow, with bright blue eyes. However, their coat is more similar ton the one of a BMD. It’s usually longer, and the color seems to vary.

All of the colors of a BMD and a Husky can mix together and the end results can be a beautiful combination of both. It definitely depends on the colors that the parents had. While BMD are known for their three-color combination, Huskies can have all kinds of colors. The most common type are black and white huskies, with the black normally being on top of the body, with a white chest, belly and paws.

When it comes to the quality of their coats, they are usually longer and thicker than the coats on their Husky parents.

Personality

This crossbreed will most likely inherit some personality traits from both of it’s parents breeds.

BMD are very loyal and gentle dogs that love to spend their time with their family. However, they can be a little stubborn.

When it comes to Huskies, they are calm and confident dogs. They love to be active and thrive in environments where they can move a lot.

A mix of these two breeds is most likely to be very sociable, outgoing and people-loving.

Both of these dog breeds aren’t aggressive at all, which also makes sure that their “child” won’t be. However, as they are very sociable and sweet, they also don’t make the best guardian dogs.

BMD Husky mix are independent thinkers. They love to make their own decisions just like their parent breeds. It won’t be too easy to train them, not because of their lack of intelligence — because their are unbelievably smart, but because of how stubborn they are.

They won’t follow your commands like a Golden Retriever or German Shepherd, for example. But they make up for it with their witty personality. If you want a dog that will do exactly what you tell him, than this breed isn’t the one for you.

However, that doesn’t mean that you can’t train your Bernese Mountain Dog Husky mix at all. In fact, it’s crucial for you to train them. That will help both you and your dog to communicate better and you will also be able to show your dog that you are the leader. That way you can expect a certain level of obedience from your pup.

Bernese Mountain Dog Husky Mix As Family Dogs

Like we already said, this crossbreed is a huge people-lover! They love humans of all ages, young or old. And that’s why they make such amazing family dogs.

They are warm, and have a huge disposition towards people. This crossbreed loves their family deeply and love to spend time with them. They are not meant to be held outside or in isolation (just like any other dog, to be fair).

They are great to have around children and they are basically huge teddy bears that love to cuddle and take naps with their loved ones. Their hunting/prey instinct isn’t developed too much either, so they can also be around other small animals.

All in all, this is a sweet and loyal dog breed that would work for most families. Their charming personality and sparkling eyes will make it so easy for you to fall in love with them.
