Golden retriever Beagle mix: The adorable Beago!

Golden retriever Beagle mix: The adorable Beago!

Do you know what a Beago is? It’s a Golden retriever Beagle mix that will steal your heart! We’ve talked about several designer dogs on our page, like the Lab and Golden retriever mix or the Golden Cocker Retriever or even about the German Shepherd Golden Retriever Mix, these are all great and smart dogs, however, the adorable Beago is truly something special! You’ll see why!

Golden retriever Beagle mix

The Golden retriever Beagle mix is a designer dog, this means it’s a cross between two purebred dogs, in this case a smart Golden retriever and a adorable Beagle. This designer dog is also known as the Beago (Bea – Beagle and Go-Golden) and it’s the perfect dog for everyone who wants a dog with the Golden Retriever personality but in a slightly smaller package. This mix is also the most family-friendly option in the designer dog world.

Characteristics and temperament

The Beago got the best traits from each parent. They are very laid back just like the Beagle, but are also very eager to please you, just like the Golden retriever! They are a great family dog because they get along great with children and other animals in the house! This dog is basically one that every household will enjoy having!

Besides this another great thing is that the Beago is a very calm puppy. They have less energy than the average Golden retriever puppy which makes them easy to manage (no hyper behavior!).

Unlike the Golden retriever who acts like a puppy even at 2-3 years of age, the Beago starts calming down at age 2. This is when they start to mature. You will notice that your Beago starts acting more like his Beagle parent, which means they are very laid-back, chill, calm and carefree. As they age they will turn into real couch potatoes, so if you’re not on the active side, then this dog might be perfect for you!

A little problem could be the fact that Beagos like to bark at strangers who walk past your home. If you don’t want this then we suggest you address this behavior it in the early training stages of your dog.

Appearance, Size and Coat color

Appearance-wise you’re getting a little bit from each parent breed. Generally speaking, the puppies will look a little more like their mom. However, it’s impossible to predict what a designer dog puppy will look like.

Typically, they weigh between 30 and 60 pounds when they’re fully grown, and are between 14 and 20 inches in height.

Now I know these measurements are pretty far apart, this is because it can happen that the Beago takes more after the Golden retriever parent or the Beagle parent. After all, this is a mixed breed, but you can usually expect your dog to be somewhere in the middle of that scale.

When it comes to their coat and color, that’s going to be a pretty big surprise too! You could get a Beago that looks like a Golden retriever with a few other colors mixed in.

On the other hand, you could get a Beago that has the same colors as the Beagle, but with slightly longer hair.

Generally speaking the colors you can expect are:

  • black,
  • brown,
  • white,
  • cream,
  • red,
  • fawn,
  • brindle

Lifespan and Health

The Golden retriever Beagle mix is known to live somewhere between 10 and 15 years. This largely depends on how well you take care of your dog and its health.

Both parent breeds are known to have hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia, cancer, heart disease, and progressive retinal atrophy. So it’s safe to say you can expect these illnesses. This is why it’s recommended you take your Beago to the vet for check-ups at least twice a year.

Beagles also tend to be overweight. You need to pay attention to what and how much you feed your Beago.

Quick facts about the Beago

If you’re still not convinced what a great dog the Beago is, we have some facts that might change your mind!

  • Beagos are very outgoing dogs! They are very social and love being in social situations. They also crave attention and have a big desire to be touched and to touch.
  • Wonderful and gentle with children! They love to play with them!
  • Besides being very family-friendly and great with children and babies, Beagos get along with other family pets, even cats!
  • They tend to be a little stubborn when they are puppies at the beginning of their training. However, don’t let this discourage you. They are quick learners and change their behavior swiftly.
  • Beagles and Golden retrievers are very smart dogs, so it’s not surprising that the Beagos are incredibly intelligent. They understand social situations very well and know what their human expects of them.
  • They are much calmer than their two purebred parents! However, this does not mean they don’t have a lot of energy and will not get you moving.

Conclusion

The Golden retriever Beagle mix could be the perfect dog for many people, especially families who already have pets such as cats or dogs. The Beago gets along pretty well with anyone and they love being in social situations. However, as puppies, they do tend to bark at strangers but this is a behavior that can easily be addressed while your dog is still a puppy.

Generally speaking, they are of good health, however, there are a few illnesses they are susceptive to so make sure you take your Beago to the vet for checkups at least twice a year. Also, be mindful of how much your Beago eats, they do tend to get overweight easily.

We are very sure that if you choose to get a Beago you won’t regret it, they are amazing designer dogs, probably the best one there is!
