Supporting a Dog in Need Through Surgery with Maternal Care

Meet Kaylee and Nibs, two adorable canine companions who were surrendered together to the Dutchess County SPCA in New York. Kaylee, a 3-year-old with glaucoma and eye inflammation, is now in need of a foster home to help her recover from surgery.

Initially brought to the shelter as part of a safety net boarding program, the duo ended up being surrendered when their owner could not take them back. Lynne Meloccaro, the executive director of DCSPCA, shares that Kaylee and Nibs are now on the lookout for a foster home where they can continue their journey side by side.

Kaylee, who relies on Nibs for support due to her vision impairment, recently underwent surgery to remove her eyes in order to alleviate her pain.

Although the procedure was stressful for Nibs, it brought the two even closer, highlighting their unique bond.

Describing the pair as an “Odd Couple” with distinct personalities but inseparable hearts, Meloccaro emphasizes Nibs’ maternal instincts towards Kaylee, especially during challenging times.

The shelter is committed to finding a foster home that can accommodate both dogs as they recover and eventually seek a forever home.

As Kaylee adjusts post-surgery and Nibs recuperates from her own health issues, the pair continues to show their strong connection, finding comfort in each other’s presence.

Once fully healed, DCSPCA will be on the lookout for a loving forever home that will adopt these best friends together.
