History of the parent breeds

The Husky German Shepherd cross is a relatively new breed combination. However, the history of its two parents is both intriguing and somewhat lengthy. And by looking at them from a historical perspective, we may learn a great deal about this adorable cross. 

In short, they are both hardworking, clever, and cooperative breeds, and they make excellent companions. In addition to working as guard dogs, police dogs, service dogs, and herding dogs, German Shepherds have also been used as herding dogs. Huskies have been used as sled dogs and companions for thousands of years. 

Sadly, we don’t know when exactly this mixed breed was created. Mixed breeds have been around for a long time. So, it’s conceivable that these two breeds have been mixed at some point in their history. Both unintentionally and deliberately! 

But, for now, let’s look at the history of both parent breeds separately.

Siberian Husky history

The Chukchi people of Northeast Asia were responsible for the development of the Siberian Huskies more than 3,000 years ago. The breed was developed primarily for hauling sleds and other heavy loads. Siberian Huskies are descended from the Spitz breed, according to genetics. 

One of the best-known examples of the breed’s racing prowess occurred when a team of Siberians raced more than 300 miles through blizzards to bring serum to the Alaskan city of Nome at the height of a diphtheria outbreak. 

The breed was introduced to the United States in the early twentieth century and was first recognized by the American Kennel Club in 1930 when it was formally acknowledged. Today, Siberian Huskies are mostly renowned as companion dogs, and they are placed 12th on the American Kennel Club’s list of the most popular dog breeds in the United States.

White German Shepherd appearance

They are a huge dog breed, with a shoulder height ranging from 22 to 26 inches. Females, on the other hand, are typically smaller than males.

Shepskies are known for having long, thick coats, and they are often not suggested for persons who suffer from allergies. They have a tendency to shed a bunch. They have erect ears and can have blue or dark brown eyes.

Grooming tips 

The white German Shepherd Husky mix has a fluffy coat that needs a lot of grooming. They also have a double coat, which makes upkeep a lot harder. But some certain tips and tricks can make the whole process easier.

It comes as no surprise that this hybrid dog will shed throughout the whole year. This is because their double coat is quite thick and long.

Bathing is not required regularly — just when they seem to be filthy or start to smell. 

It is also important that you brush their teeth every day to avoid tooth decay and gum disease, you can also provide them with dental chews daily to aid in keeping their mouths and teeth clean. 

A pro tip we have for all dog owners is to start grooming your dog at an early age. This way you will reduce the likelihood of the grooming being an unpleasant experience for them.  This will show them that there is nothing to be afraid of.

Health and exercise needs of the White German Shepherd Husky Mix

Some of the same issues that the German Shepherd and Siberian Husky suffer from also affect their crossbreed. While most are typically healthy, some may be prone to a few health problems, which is why proper care and regular veterinary visits are essential.

The following are some of the more common health issues that Shepskys face:

It should come as no surprise that this white dog breed is very energetic and has high activity requirements. 

Ensure that you are exercising your German Shepherd Husky Mix for 60 to 90 minutes per day, at least. This includes activities such as hikes, plays, and mental games.

If you live in an apartment with a tiny backyard, your dog will not be able to receive the exercise he or she needs since you will not have enough space. They might develop undesirable and harmful habits as a result of irritation and boredom if they do not get enough exercise.
