Drontal plus for dogs – What you need to know
We know that Drontal Plus is the best-selling broad-spectrum dewormer for dogs. But what does it actually do and how does this medication work? Well, it’s not that simple.
First, let’s explain what worms in dogs even are. We hear so many people talk about worms in dogs and deworming canines, but what makes worms so harmful? Worms are parasites that infest a dog’s intestines and feed off your furry friend’s blood or nutrients inside the body. That sounds terrifying, we know!
What’s worse is that there are five types of worms that can affect dogs: roundworms, hookworms, whipworms, tapeworms, and heartworms. All of these types live in the dog’s digestive system except heartworm that lives in the heart, lungs, and blood vessels.
Now, even though there are five types of works, one thing is sure. All of those worms seriously affect your dog’s health. In fact, if left untreated, these worms can cause organ failure and in the end death. In addition to them being so dangerous, there’s another problem with worms. No matter how careful you are and how much attention you pay to your dog’s health, eventually, your dog catch worms at some point.
So, that’s why it’s important to prevent and treat this issue. Certainly, one of the best medicines for dog deworming is most certainly Drontal Plus for dogs.
How Drontal Plus works
Now that you know what worms are, let’s explain how Drontal Plus for dogs works. Basically, Drontal Plus contains three ingredients that are different but work together, to ensure both round and tapeworms are treated. Because this medication contains three active ingredients, they start taking effect at different times. For example, one can take around 30 minutes to work, but it still takes up to 2-3 days for some types of worm to be killed.
There are three active ingredients in Drontal Plus tablets are:
- Praziquantel
- Pyrantel
- Febantel
Now, not all Drontal Plus packs contain the same amount of these ingredients. The ratio of these active ingredients varies based on whether the tablets are for small, medium, or large dogs. Obviously, you won’t give your small Chihuahua the same dose as a Golden Retriever.
