First, let’s explain what worms in dogs even are. We hear so many people talk about worms in dogs and deworming canines, but what makes worms so harmful? Worms are parasites that infest a dog’s intestines and feed off your furry friend’s blood or nutrients inside the body. That sounds terrifying, we know!

What’s worse is that there are five types of worms that can affect dogs: roundworms, hookworms, whipworms, tapeworms, and heartworms. All of these types live in the dog’s digestive system except heartworm that lives in the heart, lungs, and blood vessels.

Now, even though there are five types of works, one thing is sure. All of those worms seriously affect your dog’s health. How Drontal Plus works

Basically, Drontal Plus contains three ingredients that are different but work together, to ensure both round and tapeworms are treated. Because this medication contains three active ingredients, they start taking effect at different times. For example, one can take around 30 minutes to work, but it still takes up to 2-3 days for some types of worm to be killed.

There are three active ingredients in Drontal Plus tablets are:

  • Praziquantel
  • Pyrantel
  • Febantel

Now, not all Drontal Plus packs contain the same amount of these ingredients. The ratio of these active ingredients varies based on whether the tablets are for small, medium, or large dogs. Obviously, you won’t give your small Chihuahua the same dose as a Golden Retriever.

What worms does this medication affect?

Drontal Plus effectively and safely removes nine different species of tapeworms, hookworms, whipworms, and roundworms.

Tapeworms

Drontal Plus eliminates four different species of tapeworms :

  • Taenia pisiformis
  • Echinococcus granulosus
  • Echinococcus multilocularis
  • Dipylidium caninum

Hookworms

Two different species of hookworms:

  • Ancylostoma caninum
  • Uncinaria stenocephala

Roundworms

Two different species of roundworms:

Whipworms

This medication also removes one type of whipworm called Trichuris vulpis.

Because this medication contains very powerful ingredients you can’t just get it over the counter. If you want to get Drontal plus for your dogs you will need a veterinary prescription. Your vet will also explain to you how much of this medication you can give your dog. So please, follow your vet’s instructions.

Besides that, we also have to mention that, Drontal plus does have certain side effects. The truth is, all medications have certain side effects, but we still use them because the benefits far outweigh potential risks.

The side effects of Drontal Plus include:

  • diarrhea,
  • vomiting,
  • appetite loss
